The advice is great. It seems to always be accurate and is easy to follow. The graphs help me figure out which mood is making my other moods worse.

KIOS is not a replacement for the medical professionals managing your care. KIOS is not a substitute for regularly scheduled visits with psychiatrists and therapists for professional bipolar advice. KIOS is, however, designed to enhance the care that you receive from medical professionals and includes a downloadable report, which shows a history of your own unique bipolar symptoms, and can be shared with your treatment providers. Sharing your report with your health care team can provide them with important data to help them make more informed decisions about your care.

We hope you’ll keep using KIOS for expert guidance and emotional support.

While the free service/ “paid-for-by-advertisting”  model works for some products, we have determined it is not a good fit for KIOS for several reasons:

  1. KIOS is not an app  created by a person in a garage, with little to no overhead. It is a clinically tested tool developed under the guidance of some of the world’s leading bipolar experts and validated in trials and focus groups with hundreds of patients. The development and testing of KIOS has taken millions of dollars and over seven years of work. In order to maintain that level of scientific rigor and product excellence going forward, as well as to pay for  ongoing maintenance, stellar customer support and continuous improvement of the product, we need to charge for KIOS.
  2. Because mania and hypomania, two states common to bipolar, include the tendency for increased spending, we feel it would be unethical to  advertise to patients inside of KIOS.  This eliminates the option of having advertisers pay for KIOS.
  3. The purpose of KIOS is to give users a quiet moment to reflect on their thoughts and feelings, to pay attention to their bodies and emotions, and to establish a sense of objectivity about their condition. Interrupting this process with distracting ads also defeats the purpose of KIOS.

I have side effects from some of my medications, and some of the side effects make me irritable and anxious. I like how the advice changes and helps me work through side effects. The program has helped me to get more sleep and take better care of myself because I feel better.
